What is multiple sclerosis?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common disabling disease of the central nervous system that affects young adults. Diagnosis typically occurs between the ages of 20 and 40, and seven people are newly diagnosed with MS every day.
Symptoms of MS can include pain, numbness, blurred or impaired vision, problems with movement and memory, feeling tired, and depression. For some people, MS is characterized by periods of relapse and remission, while for others symptoms get progressively worse. For everyone, it makes life unpredictable.
Most people don’t consider that they are at risk from MS but 85,000 people in the UK have the condition, with 8,400 in the North West affected.
MS LIFE: A One-Stop
Shop
MS Life is held annually
by the Multiple Sclerosis Society to provide
information on every aspect of the condition,
and this year they are bringing it to the
North West.
From holidays, complementary
therapy and job information to advice and
support, MS Life has it all.
The atmosphere is extremely
relaxed and informal with an internet café,
demonstration kitchen and even a créche,
where the children will be well looked after,
while you browse round the exhibitions.
For those looking for a
more in-depth knowledge, there is the opportunity
to speak with scientists who are working
on the very latest medical developments and
also to the nurses who specialise in the
care of MS.
There will be a live interactive
debate discussing controversial issues such
as stem cells and cannabis-based treatments
and anyone can be involved.
MS Life is open to everyone.
Whether you, or someone you know is affected
by MS, or if you simply want to know more
about the condition and what it could mean
for you, you are very welcome.
MS Life
takes place 22-23 April 2006 at G-MEX, Manchester.
Entry is
free but pre-registration is recommended.
